The Mystery is Unveiled!

Ladies and Gents, after blathering on about my book and the writing process and how terribly insecure I am, I'm finally ready to reveal:

And here's the first draft of my blurb, the part that will go in my query letter to Literary Agents:

Twenty-two year old Grace Anderson seems to be on track for a very successful future. Before even graduating college, she has landed herself a PR job at one of the most prestigious agencies in Burlington, Vermont. She pats herself on the back and prepares to reap the rewards for following the road more traveled – namely money, a benefits package, and the approval of her parents Janice and Mark.

But Grace quickly realizes that balancing a career with her last semester of college is more work than she anticipated, and her friends are less than supportive. Then one night a frightening incident on her way home from a party shows her who her real friends are. It’s not long before Grace has spiraled down into a dark hole of anger and depression, and she finds herself merely existing rather than living.

Like every other morning, Grace wakes up on December 1st dreading the day. But then a book catches her eye and something inside her tells her to take a moment to flip through it. She opens it to a photograph of a place she’s always wanted to go, and dares to wonder “Why not?”

In the most impulsive episode of her life, Grace quits her job and boards a plane to Australia, where she embarks on a whirlwind of adventure and an experience unlike she had ever expected. Suddenly her comfort zone is non-existent and everything she’s ever thought is challenged at every turn. There’s no place to run and hide – especially from herself.

Like I said, it's a first draft.  Since I'm already opening veins, please feel free to suggest things that would make my pitch stronger!
